Aberaeron 37 Llangwm 3
With half the team at the tender age of 21 or under, it was the relatively older generation that stole the show in this comprehensive success over the visitors from South Pembrokeshire. Forced to blood the youngsters as a result of injuries to senior personnel, coach Alwyn Davies will be confident of the future as the squad continues to develop, but will also be grateful for the commitment displayed by the more recognised regulars. None moreso than man of the match Adam Jones, the flanker may be slim in build but the awareness and tenacity of his play belies his stature and following his brace against Swansea Uplands the previous week, he duly demolished any hope that Llangwm may have had with a four try salvo. The hosts never looked in danger of loosing this match, and the only debate was the margin of victory on a bitterly cold day at Parc Drefach that left the extremities numb. The tight eight again were dominant and Dylan Williams had a comfortable afternoon at the base, with only some desperate defence keeping the home backs from adding to the scoreline. As it was Williams was the only non forward to score and that came after a period of pressure in the opening quarter. One of the young brigade, hooker Rhydian Harries soon added the second, popping up in the unaccustomed position on the wing to finish off some nice interplay by the backs. And then came the start of the flanker’s spree, benefiting from concerted drives near the visitors’ line to register the first. Although facing the wind in the second period it was much of the same with the experienced boiler room of Nathan Best and Sion Aron displaying real commitment and composure , paving the way for captain Tudur Jenkins to register his name on the scoresheet. Llangwm’s rare forays bore little fruit as the home defence comfortably dealt with any attacks. Wing Aled Davies exemplified the team’s attitude being unlucky one occasion not to break through after collecting a loose ball deep in his own half. But it was left to that man Jones to gain the accolades being on hand on a further three occasions to increase his season’s try count to seven. Following the disappointments over the last two months where performances have not always brought the reward, the two recent successes albeit against weaker opposition has re ignited the season and we now look forward to keeping momentum going to the end of the campaign. Next up is an awkward looking encounter away to Pontyates on Saturday.
