Aberaeron 9 Cefneithin 23 Succumbing to their first league defeat in seven league games, Aberaeron will do well to learn from this defeat as the league leaders showed the composure and then the ruthlessness required to gain the honours , come season’s end. Again, as in the previous week’s encounter at Lampeter, the home side competed well and more than held their own especially in the first half. There is however a real issue with discipline within the home ranks as hard fought advantage is given up time and again with indiscretion at the breakdown, and coach Alwyn Davies is becoming a very frustrated individual as all the hard work at the set pieces is to no avail. On this occasion Aberaeron were ahead twice in the first half through the boot of Llyr Davies, but were immediately pegged back to leave the scoreline even at the break. Scrum half Dylan Williams was able to gain a plentiful supply of good ball from the set pieces where captain Tudur Jenkins rallied his troops superbly but the back line was unable to breakthrough the resilient visitors defence leaving Bleddyn Henson and Rhodri Severs frustrated on the wings. And with a slight wind in their favour in the second period, Cefneithin were able to build on their first half resilience and produce the cutting edge to take the honours. They went ahead midway through with a well worked try under the posts with an easy conversion to follow and despite a penalty from Tom Taylor, deputising in the centre, another failure in open play soon afterwards regained the advantage which they were never to release. The scoreline took a somewhat flattering look near the final whistle with a second converted try for the leaders but this only served to cap a fine afternoon and really cement their position at the top of the league. Apart from the disappointment of the result there will be more than a little concern on several injuries sustained during the afternoon, and with a busy period due after the six nations the treatment room could be a busy place for the next week or so. Next up for the Seagulls is a tough looking encounter at Milford Haven, and they will be more than eager to try and reverse the narrow defeat sustained at Parc Drefach earlier in the season.
