Llandybie 38 Aberaeron 12

The curtain finally came down for the season for Aberaeron with a disappointing defeat in the rearranged encounter with Llandybie. With nothing at stake the visitors were forced into may changes due to unavailabilities, but credit must be given to the incoming personnel for keeping the result in the balance until well into the second half. Indeed Aberaeron held the advantage at the break, and were unlucky not to be further in front such was their superiority at forward but in the end had to settle for the lone try scored by lock Leighton Daniels. With a revamped front row of Alex Danton, Owen Wozencroft and old warhorse Glyn Evans combining well in the loose as well as well as being solid in the set pieces possession was plentiful but this failed to provide the necessary advantage required turning to face the wind in the second half. The hosts on the other hand were fortunate to be able to call on a number of their youth squad who had won their league comfortably this season and it was the pace of the younger element coupled with a few old heads that was the final difference between the two sides. It did however take until the final quarter for the home side to gain a real advantage as Aberaeron had fought back well with a second try of the season for Owen Williams, filling in at outside half on this occasion . But with the visitors chasing the game Llandybie took advantage of some wayward kicking to counter attack which resulted in three scores from deep inside their own territory to extinguish any hopes of a comeback. The final scoreline may be somewhat flattering, but it was a case of one game too many for Aberaeron with so many regulars missing. So the season ends on a low note, and rather disappointingly such was the high expectation way back in September. Now it is time to reflect on the missed opportunities and hopefully the next campaign will finally bring the glory that has been beckoning on more than one occasion in recent years.
