Aberaeron 12 Penygroes 3
Despite the atrocious conditions, Aberaeron duly completed the double over Penygroes. With Parc Drefach resembling a paddy field at the end it was credit to club members that the game was played at all with standing water on the pitch at the start of the day putting the fixture at risk,. As it was the game ran its full course and although understandably not a classic, both teams did their utmost to play rugby with the home side deserved winners. They controlled virtually all the first period with the only missing ingredients being points on the board. The home eight were more than a match for their opponents with ap Dylan at wing forward claiming the man of the match award. Despite the superiority, too often the final pass went to ground with the conditions the winner and the home crowd were stunned when a rare foray by Penygroes into home territory near the half way mark resulted into a successful penalty to give the visitors an unlikely lead . With the wind and rain on their backs in the second half it was virtually all one way traffic as Penygroes stubbornly defended their line, and the reward finally came when outside half Dylan Evans crashed over the line after breaking several tackles. The additional conversion gave breathing space and this was further enhanced minutes later when lock Leighton Daniels took a clever pass from hooker Carwyn Davies for his fourth try of the season. From then on it was a case of going for the bonus point but try as they might it was not to be and Aberaeron had to be content with the win and the four league points. It was a satisfied coach Alwyn Davies at the end, who had seen his team give their all under trying circumstances with the focus now turning to an intriguing encounter at improving St Davids next on the agenda. 15Aled Davies, 14 Cerith Jones, 13 Wyre Jones 12 Euryl Rees (Llyr Jones), 11 Rhodri Thomas , 10 Dylan Evans(Llyr Davies), 9 Dylan Williams (c), 8 Tudur Jenkins, 7 Elgan Jones, 6 Ywain ap Dylan(Carl Downing), 5 Nathan Best, 4 Leighton Daniels, 3 Dan Downes, 2 Carwyn Davies, 1 Deiniol Evans (Mike Jones)
