Aberaeron 41 Llandybie 26

The Seagulls extended their unbeaten record to six as they eventually disposed of a dogged Llandybie side who started the day in third position in the league. In fairness the game should have been over as a contest in the first half as Aber had opened up a 27 point advantage with the wind on their backs, with the visitors showing very little in the way of attacking options. Their only saving grace was that they were able to achieve parity in the scrums, this being due to their lack of front row personnel which meant the set piece was uncontested. This is the second time this term that visiting teams have elected to play this way at Parc Drefach, and it certainly adds very little to the game as a spectacle. During the opening period tries came at regular intervals with the forwards taking the honours on the try count. Flankers Ywain ap Dylan and Rob Jenkins gave the home side the early advantage and this was boosted by further scores from man of the match Eilir Evans. Wing Rhodri Thomas scored his seventh try of the season and outside half Dylan Evans added a further seven points to reach half time in the comfort zone.
It was important for the visitors to make early inroads in the second half, and to their credit they displayed fair more determination which resulted in two early scores to give a glimmer of hope. This hope however was dashed as Aber regained superiority and they were rewarded with their fifth try through centre Wyre Jones, after the front eight had controlled a series of rolling mauls. Llandybie again fought back but despite crossing the line once more, the score was cancelled out with a first try of the season for Marcos Davies, the second row showing good hands to capitalise on excellent approach work. Evans added the extra points and despite the visitors crossing the home line for the fourth time on the final whistle, this was mere consolation which gave a flattering final scoreline.
Despite the odd defensive lapse this was an encouraging performance by the Seagulls and will be a considerable boost for a tough away encounter at St Clears next Saturday.
