In the mud and rain in Scarlet country, the upturn in the Seagulls fortunes continued with a comprehensive defeat of Furnace. Followers of the Parc Drefach outfit are normally used to flowing back line action but the glory on this occasion undoubtedly went to the front eight, who completely outfought the home side in all aspects of the game. It was clear from the start that the elements would prove to be a major factor and captain and scrum half Dylan Williams was content to keep the play tight, depending on his well drilled pack to gain advantage at every opportunity. On the odd occasion when the ball went wide, there were inevitable fumbles with desperate hands always struggling for control of the slippery ball. Aber got away to the perfect start with a try in the opening minutes, Neil Jones being in perfect position to reach for the line, the score being converted by Gethin Morgan. Although the lineouts were a lottery in the windy conditions, the visitors reigned supreme in the scrums with hooker Eilir Evans giving a commanding performance, taking numerous strikes against the head with no little help from props Dan Downes and Steffan Jones. Arguably the most spectacular try came mid way through the half when Rob Jenkins took a final pass at full stretch having kept up with a break from deep within his own territory, and this put daylight between the two teams. Furnace were expected to use the strong wind to their advantage in the second half but the visitors continually denied the opposition quality possession and continued their dominance among the front eight. The lead was soon extended when a defending scrum was completely taken apart allowing influential number eight Neil Snowdon to gain the glory. The only blip was some over complication near the Furnace line which allowed the home backs to gather the loose ball and break away for what turned out to be a consolation try. Aber soon steadied the boat and following a penalty from Huw Williams evergreen lock Nathan Best also put his name on the scoresheet to complete a satisfactory afternoon. The Seagulls have undoubtedly benefited from the Autumn break and with two home games to come before the new year have the perfect opportunity to build on recent success with renewed hope for the remaining campaign.
