New Dock Stars 0 Aberaeron 43

Superlatives are quite often quoted at times of exuberance but this success upon reflection deserves the highest recognition. The hosts had suffered a crushing defeat at Parc Drefach the previous Saturday and had bolstered the squad for this return encounter. Aberaeron on the other hand were forced to make several changes due to injury with no less than 4 replacements to the forward line up. A very interesting challenge therefore with the season reaching its climax. As it was the concern was totally unfounded as a dominant forward display was complimented with a 7 try haul from the back line, who on the day were ruthless in their finishing. The Dock’s early fire was easily absorbed and it was soon apparent that it would only be a matter of time before the domination would bring reward. The main benefactor on the day was Gethin Morgan whose overall haul of 4 tries takes him into double figures for the season . The first came as early as the seventh minute following quick possession and slick handling giving the wing a clear path to the line. The hosts although resilient were also guilty of some sloppy defending and there quickly followed a try apiece for outside half Llyr Davies and full back Ollie Sawyer , both the result of good anticipation. The all important bonus point has been achieved by half time as Morgan capitalised on a well worked overlap to put the visitors into the comfort zoned. One of the enforced changes resulted in Alex Danton taking the unaccustomed hooker role, but aided by props Dan Downes and Owen Wozencraft, the front row had a comfortable afternoon. The enterprise bore another 3 tries in the second period, with Morgan’s double added to in the final minutes with Owain Williams crossing for his tenth of the season. Williams’ centre pairing with Dylan Evans was solid and the latter celebrated his return to the team after a 3 month layoff with 8 points from the boot. By the final whistle the home side were a well beaten outfit and only desperate defence avoided a heavier defeat, burly replacement prop Deioniol Evans just failing to reach the line following a charge from 20metres. Captain Tudur Jenkins, also a welcome returnee, would have been proud of the display, but will accept that there is much work ahead to achieve the much acclaimed elevation to a higher elevation.
