Aberaeron 51 St Clears 0 Another game, another win for the Seagulls with another clinical display to further enhance prospects of elevation to a higher level. After disposing of lesser teams in recent weeks, this was meant to be a test of character and resolve but the manner and quality of the victory leaves little doubt about the limits achievable for this young side with widespread acclaim ringing in their years at the final whistle. From the first kick the hosts never looked in any danger and any risk of a shock result was dispelled within the first quarter with well composed tries coming at regular intervals and in the process gaining the all important bonus point. Showing a number of changes, highlighting the growing depth in strength within the squad , apart from the eight tries scored during the afternoon the most pleasing aspect was the defensive prowess that has developed during the season which on the day came to the fore once again and caused undue frustration to any Saints ambitions. As a contest the game was over by the half way mark with the advantage a comfortable thirty four points and five tries from captain Leighton Daniel, full back Iestyn Thomas, hooker Gareth Flynn and a brace from returning number eight Ywain ap Dylan. From thereon it was case of how many and only the introduction of uncontested scrums confined the final scoreline to reasonably acceptable limits. A further two tries from ap Dylan set the scene for a grandstand finish with outside half Llyr Davies also getting in on the act to complete the scoring with full back Thomas finishing with a tally of sixteen points. Apart from the aforementioned try scorers there were a numbers of excellent displays, from robust prop Owain Wozencroft, responsible for the early substitutions of two opponents, the hardworking lock Nathan Best and the infuriating presence of flanker Alistair Severs, whilst the strong running centre pairing of Tom Taylor and Owen Williams were a constant threat throughout the afternoon. All in all the result means another step in the relentless climb out of Division 5 which the present squad with a totally fresh approach thoroughly deserves. However caution must also prevail and that will in the end prove to be the biggest challenge to coach Alwyn Davies with seven games to go to season’s end.
