Aberaeron 63 Llangwm 7
Not unexpectedly, Aberaeron duly got their season back on track with a comfortable win against lowly Llangwm. The visitors record shows a mere two successes this term and this encounter never really threatened to enhance that statistic. An ideal opportunity therefore for Aberaeron to dust off the cobwebs after the enforced break for the internationals, and this they did in some style, running in eleven tries by the final whistle. It was a case of waiting for the inevitable and by the break, the all important four tries and bonus point had been achieved with the scoreline showing a twenty two point advantage. Captain Tudur Jenkins led by example, crossing the line in the tenth minute, and this was quickly followed a try apiece for strong running centre Bleddyn Henson and number eight Ywain ap Dylan. Minutes from half time they moved into the comfort zone when a flowing move released Gethin Morgan to put his name on the scoresheet. Despite a lapse of concentration at the start of the second half, gifting the visitors an intercepted try, it was very much more of the same with the scores coming at regular intervals. Owen Williams at centre was always in the thick of play and was duly rewarded with a brace for his efforts. Not to be outdone Henson also doubled his tally, again following a flowing move along the backline, a facet which was evident and pleasing to watch throughout the afternoon. The hard work up front paid further dividends as the match moved into the final quarter, lock Leighton Daniel taking the forwards’ glory for his fifth try of the season, and by the final whistle the tryline had been crossed a further three occasions, fly half Llyr Davies deftly outwitting the defence, followed by a try apiece form wingers Rhodri Severs and namesake Thomas. A further three conversions from full back Tom Taylor completed the scoring for what really was an overwhelming success, and the manner in which it was achieved will surely have given coach Alwyn Davies much pleasure. Another enforced break this weekend can only disrupt the momentum, but confidence will remain high with a trip to lowly Swansea Uplands next up in a week’s time.
