Aberaeron 46 Bynea 0
With their last league encounter a distant memory way back in October, Aberaeron finally got their season back on track with this comfortable success against lowly Bynea. Not unexpected following the long layoff, a considerable following witnessed a stuttering first half from the hosts, as they stove for the bonus point success to close the gap at the top of the league. It was certainly a case of frustration for coach Alwyn Davies during this period as over eagerness and complication restricted the advantage to two tries at the half way mark. All the pressure came from the home side and they took an early lead with a penalty from centre Dylan Evans, but with anticipation of the floodgates opening, it took until mid way through the half for the first try to arrive the benefactor being flanker Adam Jones who was a real presence throughout the afternoon. With the front eight dominant it looked as if the scoreboard would soon be ticking over, but despite total supremacy up front the second try only came minutes from the break when number eight Ywain ap Dylan forced over for his first try of the campaign . Successful conversions from Evans ensured that there was a comfortable seventeen point advantage for the second half with a slight breeze benefiting the home side. Contrary to the first period, Aberaeron displayed better patience and control from the outset of the half and they were duly rewarded for their overall superiority with well worked scores coming at regular intervals. The returning hooker Gareth Flynn was first off the mark and this was reward indeed for the whole front row with props Dan Downes and Owain Wozencroft developing into a formidable unit. Tom Taylor at full back was always dangerous on the break and he was next to add his name to the scoring sheet , also for his first try of the season. The enforced break has had the benefit of allowing several injured players to recover fitness and it was pleasing to see another long time absentee returning , centre Owen Williams capping a solid afternoon with a try under the posts. For the final quarter it was a case of racking up as many tries as possible and a further two were added by wing Cerith Jones and outside half Llyr Davies with further conversions from Aled Sweeney completing the scoring. So the result means that the gap at the top is narrowed to two points with a game in hand, but with several difficult games ahead, Aberaeron will need to reproduce their second half performance to maintain any prospect of success at the end of the season.
