Aberaeron 77 Swansea Uplands 7

Over 200 points scored in the last three league games would suggest that Aberaeron can already look forward to playing at a higher level next term. However the statistics will confirm that the points have been amassed against the bottom three sides in the league and such is the gulf in class in Division 5 West that most of the other front runners will also fancy their chances of matching the Seagulls feat, thereby creating a real battle for honours at the end of the season. If this had been a boxing match, the towel would have been thrown in after the first few minutes, and the only redeeming factor for the visitors is that they prevented an even bigger defeat curtsy of entering the contest without a recognised front row, and claiming parity in the scrums through the uncontested set piece. This also totally spoilt the game as a spectacle and there was a real sense of disappointment and frustration at the final whistle, despite the landslide victory. In total Aberaeron crossed the try line on thirteen occasions with only a lapse in concentration gifting the visitors a consolation score. The bonus point was claimed within the first quarter as a much changed home unit ruthlessly destroyed any chances of a shock result also giving coach Alwyn Davies a little selection headache for the tougher matches ahead. There were first starts and welcome returns for Llyr Davies, Adam Jones, and Rhodri Thomas with Llion ap Dylan, Owen Williams and Eilir Evans entering the fray at the latter stages, a pleasant boost for the season ahead.
The main benefactor on the day was Ollie Sawyer, the talented wing man claiming a hat trick in the first half, and unlucky not to add to his tally. Not to be forgotten fellow wing Thomas weighed in with a brace, a feat also completed by sturdy lock Neil Snowdon, and there were further tries from Llyr Davies, Alistair Severs, Gethin Morgan, Gareth Flynn, Owen Williams and Aled Sweeney, not forgetting a twelve point haul from the boot of Dylan Evans. Several other opportunities went astray but minor indiscretions some questionable resulting in a fractured final period put paid to a potential three figure final scoreline. So Aberaeron will have to be content with a comfortable victory , knowing that the real battle is still to come, the first hurdle coming up on Saturday with a visit to second place St Clears.
